COP (Conference of the Parties) is the annual climate summit under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It’s the formal gathering where every country that is part of the UNFCCC comes together to review progress, negotiate new agreements and decide on actions to slow global warming and help countries adapt.
For Nunatsiavut, attending the COP is about having a voice at the global table. COP provides a platform for the Nunatsiavut Government to share Inuit knowledge, experiences, and priorities directly with world leaders and decision-makers. By being at COP, Nunatsiavut can help shape international policies and agreements that directly affect the Arctic and Inuit communities.
COP is a chance to connect with governments, researchers and organizations to strengthen collaborations and bring resources back to Nunatsiavut. Attendance ensures that the strategy’s priorities are represented in global climate solutions.
Climate change impacts Inuit homelands first and most deeply. Being at COP ensures Nunatsiavut is actively part of the conversation.
